Snagged your Windows 10 update? Nice, but once everything comes back up you might find that Google Chrome is no longer set as your default browser.

Older versions of Chrome did have the ability to place the RoboForm toolbar at the top of the browser. Chrome has since changed their browser functionality so that this is no longer possible. No one can place an upper toolbar in Chrome; this is why RoboForm must be placed at the bottom. Similar to Chrome, an upper toolbar is not available. On Chrome I note that Norton Security has its own toolbar under the address bar. You turn it on in the extensions area, which you get to through Settings.
What gives?
Windows 10 comes jam-packed with nifty new features, a slick new start menu and a clean, modern design — but it also has some niggling new default app behaviours.
The OS update changes the default app settings for opening photos, video, and web links — changes that apply regardless of whether you’re performing a Windows 10 upgrade (where such changes aren’t expected).
‘It’s actually really easy to change default browser in Windows 10’
For internet related actives in Windows 10 Microsoft will use its shiny new, and very nimble, Edge web browser by default.
This decision has raised the ire of both users and browser makers’ alike. Mozilla CEO Chris Beard has written an open letter to Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, chastising the move as limiting users’ choice and ‘rolling the clock back’ to the dark days of the browser wars.
The good news is that changing the default browser in Windows 10 is easy to do.
(Yes, it’s annoying that you have to do it in the firs place, but since it only takes a few clicks it’s not worth getting too angsty about.)
How to change default browser on Windows 10
It doesn’t matter which version of Windows you upgrade from the way you change defaults is different in Windows 10.
1. Click Start Menu > Settings:
2. Click the ‘System‘ tile:
3. Select ‘Default Apps’ from the left-hand column:
4. Scroll down to the section headed ‘Web browser’ and click on the icon underneath (it will either read ‘Microsoft Edge’).
5. Select Google Chrome from the list that appears.
Next time you click on a web-link in another app, for example on Twitter or in an e-mail, the resulting web-page will open in Google Chrome and not Microsoft Edge.
You can still continue to use Microsoft Edge; this process does not delete it. If you ever want to go back to using Edge as default just repeat the steps listed above but, in step 5, choose ‘Edge’ instead of ‘Google Chrome’.
The days of using separate applications for development and browsing are coming to an end. It’s possible to edit source files directly within Chrome and save the result to a local file. Even better — changes can be applied immediately without refreshing the browser.
This technique should work in recent versions of Chrome although, currently, it’s only possible to edit and save JavaScript files. HTML and CSS are almost certain to be supported eventually, though.

Step 1: Launch Developer Tools
Open Chrome, load a page from your local file system/server and open Developer Tools from the Tools menu or press Ctrl+Shift+I / Cmd+Shift+I. Navigate to the Source tab then either click the Sources icon or hit Ctrl+O to select your JavaScript file:
Step 2: Edit Your Code

You can now jump straight in and edit your code. Chrome also offers a useful function list to help you locate the right line — press Ctrl+Shift+O / Cmd+Shift+O:
Step 3: Save the File
Hit Ctrl+S / Cmd+S to save your changes. This updates the file in memory and applies the changes immediately. Note however, that code won’t start again so changes to initialization variables won’t be affected.
To save the changes to the original file, right-click the editor and select Save or Save As…. Once done, you can refresh the page and the script will restart.
Step 4: Undo Your Mistakes
Did your update cause chaos? Right-click the editor and select Local modifications…. The lower pane displays all recent changes and allows you to revert back.

Chrome’s Developer Tools may not be a replacement for your current IDE or editor, but they’re very useful if you’re working on another PC or just require a few quick and dirty edits.
